Tiger Barb
Tiger Barb
Tank size: A small group of tiger barbs needs a minimum tank size of 20 gallons (75 liters), but a larger tank is better for a larger group or if you want to house them with other fish.
Water parameters: Tiger barbs prefer warm water with a temperature of 72–80°F (22–27°C), a pH of 6.0–7.5, and soft to moderately hard water with a general hardness (GH) of 4–10 dGH.
Tank setup: Tiger barbs like well-planted tanks with lots of open swimming space and hiding places. You can use live plants like Java fern, Anubias, and Amazon swords, as well as driftwood and rocks.
Lighting: Moderate lighting is ideal for enhancing their coloration.
Filtration: A gentle to moderate filtration system is recommended.
Water changes: Regularly change the water, about 20% weekly, to maintain water quality.
Schooling: Tiger barbs are schooling fish that do best when kept in groups of at least six. Keeping them in a group helps prevent aggression and nipping.
Tankmates: Tiger barbs are known to nip at fish with longer fins, so they do best with quicker moving fish like danios, minnows, and tetras. Larger, peaceful invertebrates can also make good tankmates.
