Species: Emperor Scorpion
Scientific Name: Pandinus Emperator
Origin: West Africa
Lifespan: 6-8 Years
Size: 20cm (7.9in)
Enclosure Type: A glass or acrylic aquarium with plenty of ventilation and a tight-fitting lid.
Enclosure Size: 10 gallons
Substrate: Substrate should be 3-6 inches deep so your scorpion can burrow. Optimal substrates include coconut fiber, sterilized potting soil, cork bark, peat, and vermiculite.
Decor: Ensure your scorpion has hiding places such as under logs, rocks, or plants. Live plants are a good option as they help maintain humidity.
Water: Scorpions drink lots of water so make sure to include a water dish shallow enough to prevent them from drowning.
Temperature: 70-90 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep one side of your enclosure warmer and one cooler by placing a heat mat under 1/3 of your tank so your scorpion can move from cooler or warmer temperatures as they want.
Humidity: Humidity should stay around 75%. Mist your tank daily to keep your humidity stable.
Lighting: Emperor scorpions are nocturnal, so lighting isn't needed. It is also recommended to keep your tank out of direct sunlight.
Type of Diet: Carnivorous
Types of Food: Insects and small lizards
Feeding Schedule: At least twice a week. The number of crickets your scorpion eats at a time will help you determine an optimal feeding schedule.
Supplements: Dust crickets with a calcium-based supplement to ensure the best health for your emperor scorpion.
