Species: Costa Rican Tailless Whip Scorpion

Scientific Name: Phrynus whitei

Origin: Through Guatemala and several parts of Costa Rica

Lifespan: 2-3 years

Size: 2-3 inches

Enclosure Type: Tailless whip scorpions tend to be active at night, so providing a larger setup is beneficial. Just don’t forget to secure the enclosure well against escape.

Enclosure Size: The enclosure length, width, and height should each be at least twice that of the whip scorpion’s diameter.

Substrate: 2” of a moisture friendly substrate. Eco earth, reptisoil, and plantation soil are all suitable.

Decor: Low branches, cork flats, live or artificial plants, and artificial ornaments are all great to provide your scorpion with some decor. Just make sure they have a couple different hiding spaces to choose from.

Water: Provide a shallow water dish as well as misting your enclosure daily.

Temperature: The optimal temperature for tailless whip scorpions is between 65-77°F for tropical species. Semi-arid species are likely to appreciate access to a warmer basking area.

Humidity: Tailless whip scorpions prefer high humidity conditions between 70-90%, but the semi-arid species can be kept at 65-75%. Mist the enclosure as needed to maintain proper humidity.

Lighting: No UVB is needed, however, a low wattage heat bulb can be beneficial but is also not a requirement.

Type of Diet: Carnivorous

Types of Food: Crickets, Dubia roach nymphs, and discoid roach nymphs

Feeding Schedule: Once per week
