Chinese Checkers
Chinese Checkers
Always a cherished strategy game, Chinese Checkers was actually invented in Germany in 1892 under the name Stern-Halma. The game was a variation of the older American game called Halma. Yep, you read that correctly - despite its name, Chinese Checkers is not a variation of checkers, nor did it originate in China or any part of Asia. Who would have thought?
Chinese Checkers can be played by two, three, four, or six people, playing individually or in groups. The rules are simple, tailored so that even young children can play and have fun. Though the name has changed, the old rules still apply. Players must be the first to race all of their pegs across the hexagram-shaped board and into their "home base" - the opposite corner of the starting corner. Players use single-step moves, or moves that jump over other player’s pieces for an extra bonus. Once the board is filled with many pieces, you might be able to leap across the board in one move!
Our Chinese Checkers board game comes in a gorgeous, wooden box with a matching lid, handy for traveling with the family and storing the pieces for safekeeping. The star shape and striking colors make this board game a perfect centerpiece for any table as well.
