Enclosure: Use a small, auxiliary enclosure for quarantine to maintain a constant temperature and humidity. You can increase humidity by using a larger water bowl in the heated environment. Clean the enclosure and equipment with disinfectants containing alcohol or peroxide.
Diet: Juvenile black spiny-tailed iguanas eat mostly insects, but their diet becomes more herbivorous as they get older. Adults will also eat small birds, mammals, and other reptiles. Fruit should make up less than 20% of an iguana's diet.
Habitat: Black spiny-tailed iguanas are native to parts of Central America and southern Mexico, but have been introduced to Florida and are considered invasive. They can live in a variety of habitats, including forests and grasslands.
Lifespan: Black spiny-tailed iguanas can live for more than 60 years.
