Species: Asian Forest Scorpion
Scientific Name: Heterometrus sp.
Origin: Tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, notably in nations like India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Lifespan: 5-10 Years
Size: 4 – 6 inches
Enclosure Type: To put it in a nutshell, we need to emulate their natural environment meaning: high humidity, warm temperature, lots of hiding places, and substrate that allows them to burrow.
Enclosure Size: A 5-gallon terrarium is required, but 10-gallons up to 20-gallons can work as well.
Substrate: Eco-Earth, potting soil, peat moss, or damp sand can be used as a substrate.
Décor: There should be plenty of dark areas for them to hide in and these should be created out of rocks, driftwood, plants, coconuts, pieces of cork bark, etc. It will make them feel like they are still in the Asian rainforests.
Water: Asian forest scorpions need freshwater. So, it is important to provide them with a shallow dish that they can easily crawl out of.
Temperature: The optimal temperature range for Asian forest scorpions is between 75 – 90 °F (24 – 32 °C). They do love warm temperatures.
Humidity: Humidity levels are very important. The humidity level should be more than 60%. In ideal range would be between 70 and 80 % all the time. Do not spray/mist scorpions, it freaks them out and they really hate it.
Lighting: Lighting is not necessary for Asian forest scorpions
Type Of Diet: Carnivorous
Types Of Food: Crickets, mealworms, or other insects.
Feeding Schedule: Once a week
Supplements: Asian forest scorpion don't require any supplements
